Which cap height?

The size you set is the real height of the stitched capitals — the lettering industry standard.

Below 12 mm	Bold-font territory (Montserrat, Bebas, Anton, Titan One). Thin strokes close up: skip Playfair, Cinzel and Kaushan.
12 to 25 mm	The satin sweet spot: every stroke becomes a well-formed column, crisp names and monograms.
25 to 40 mm	Strokes exceed 8 mm on bold fonts: they switch to tatami fill automatically.
Above 40 mm	Large format — plan for serious stabilizer: wide lettering pulls on the fabric.

Everything about embroidered lettering

Is the lettering really satin stitch?

Yes — true satin columns, bounded zigzag with graduated underlay and pull compensation, generated from the font's exact outlines. Many free generators only trace outlines in running stitch; satin is the main mode here, with tatami fill taking over above 8 mm stroke width.

Which file format for my machine?

Brother and Babylock read PES, Janome reads JEF, Tajima and most industrial machines read DST, Bernina/Pfaff/Husqvarna read VP3 or EXP, Singer reads XXX, Barudan reads U01. The tool generates all 7 at once: take yours, or gift the right format to the embroiderer helping you.

What letter height should I choose?

The height you set is the cap height. Between 12 and 25 mm you are in the satin sweet spot. Below 12 mm prefer bold fonts (Montserrat, Bebas Neue); Playfair's fine hairlines need at least 18 mm to stay legible.

How does the arch work?

The rise (−80 to +80 mm) curves the baseline: positive bows the text upward (dome), negative smiles it downward. Letters follow the curve by rotating — never distorted, the professional lettering method.

Do I need an account to download?

No. The tool is anonymous and free, no watermark and no daily limit — just an anti-abus cap of a few generations per minute. A free account becomes useful for digitizing images into embroidery, not for lettering.

Can I stitch accents and digits?

Yes: all 8 fonts cover the full Latin alphabet with accents (é, è, ç, à…), digits and common punctuation. Unsupported characters (emoji, non-Latin scripts) are flagged before generation instead of stitching as tofu.

Are the fonts royalty-free?

Yes: the eight families are licensed under the open-source SIL OFL, shipped with Brode's engine. You can stitch and sell your creations — lettering and file alike — with no licensing worries.

How are the 8 fonts chosen?

By choice: every font is verified on real embroidery (needle-path rasterization, stitch counting) and tuned to stitch cleanly at its recommended sizes. Fifty untested fonts would be cheaper to list — and more expensive to your fabrics. The collection will grow, one tested font at a time.

How do I get multi-line or multicolor lettering?

Generate each line separately (one per request) and position them in your machine's software — the file keeps the chosen thread. Built-in multicolor and multi-line lettering is on the roadmap.
