What the conversion preserves — and its limits

A format converter rewrites the stitch path; it does not re-digitize. Here is exactly what survives the conversion.

The stitch path, stitch by stitch

Every stitch, jump, thread trim and color change is rewritten as-is — density and sewing order unchanged. No stitch is added or removed.

Colors: depends on the format

PES, JEF and VP3 carry colors (JEF and PES quantized to their machine palette). EXP and U01 carry none: a .colors.json sheet ships with the converted file. For DST, colors pass through at best depending on the software.

No re-digitizing

The conversion recomputes neither fill angles nor underlay: what the source file contains is exactly what the machine will sew. To start from an image, use image-to-embroidery conversion.

Privacy: nothing is stored

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert a DST file to PES?

Drop your .dst file, choose PES and hit “Convert”. The file is rewritten as PES (Brother, Baby Lock, Bernina Deco) within seconds, no account needed.

Is the conversion really free?

Yes — no account, no conversion limit. Drop, convert, download, repeat as much as you need.

Is my embroidery file stored?

No. The file is processed in memory, the result expires after 15 minutes and everything is deleted automatically. No account required, no file name kept.

Are colors preserved?

Yes for formats that carry them (PES, JEF, VP3 — with the palette quantization of each format). EXP and U01 carry no colors: a .colors.json sheet is provided next to the converted file.

How is this different from image-to-embroidery conversion?

This converter rewrites an EXISTING embroidery file into another machine format. Image-to-embroidery conversion — the core of Brode — starts from an image (PNG, JPG logo…) and CREATES the corresponding embroidery file.

Does the conversion alter my design?

No: the stitch path is rewritten stitch by stitch, with no re-digitizing. Only the physical limits of the target format apply (maximum stitch length, the format's color palette).
